Paulo Ferreira will lose Patrick Van Aanholt as a competitor for his place in the squad after the youngster is being targeted by Nottingham Forest for a loan move. Ferreira spent most of least season in the Chelsea Hospitality lounge, but now has more chance of getting a game.

Van Aanholt, 19, impressed during spells at Coventry City and Newcastle United last season. Comfortable at either left back or centre back, the Netherlands youth international would boost manager Billy Davies' options at the City Ground.

With Ashley Cole, Yury Zhirkov and Paulo Ferreira all ahead of him in the pecking order at the Blues, van Aanholt is believed to be ready for another temporary spell away. Top flight new boys Newcastle are set to provide competition for the Midlanders for his signature.
