SWANSEA BEAT CHELSEA

Swansea City has defeated Chelsea in a Capital One Cup match played at Stamford Bridge on Thursday. Swansea won the match by 2-0. The Blues were expected to dominate on their home ground, but, they failed in carrying on the form that they had shown in their previous clash against Southampton and were comprehensively beaten by a confident Swansea City team.

The manager of Chelsea, Rafa Benitez, made a couple of changes in the starting XI. Fernando Torres and Oscar were included in the starting line up, while, Demba Ba was left out. On the other hand, there were five changes in the starting line up of Swansea. The most notable change was Michu replacing Danny Graham.

The Hosts started well and created a couple of goal scoring opportunities in the first 10 minutes, but, they didn’t succeed in giving the finishing touch on either of them.

But, Swansea City didn’t miss the chance that came its way in the 38th minute. The goalkeeper of Chelsea, Ross Turnbull, passed the ball to Ivanovic who wasn’t able to control it. Jonathan De Guzman chased Ivanovic and after grabbing the ball from him, he gave it to Michu who took a bit of time to get into position and then slotted the ball into the net to take Swansea City ahead in the match.

Chelsea had the opportunity to level the scores just before the half time break, but, Ivanovic’s powerful shot was brilliantly stopped by the Swansea City goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel.

Swansea City managed to double its lead in the stoppage time. It was Ivanovic again who made the mistake; he tried to pass the ball to Turnbull without seeing that Danny Graham was in the way. Graham was quick to pounce on that chance. He just tapped the ball into the empty net and made the score 2-0 in the favour of Swansea City.
Chelsea’s next match will be a Premier League encounter against Stoke City at Britannia Stadium on Saturday.
