Paulo Ferreira praises performance of Branislav Ivanovic

Former Chelsea defender Paulo Ferreira has praised the performances of right back Branislav Ivanovic.

The Serbian defender has been unshakeable from the right back spot at Chelsea for the last 12 months. His ability to defend well coupled with his attacking instincts seems have made him one of the important members in the team. Ferreira, who was once the club’s regular right back, says that he has been very impressed with the performances of Ivanovic so far this campaign. Ferreira is the club ambassador at Chelsea after having recently retired at the age of 35.
The Portuguese was one of the first signings made by Jose Mourinho when he came to the club in his first spell back in 2004.

Signed for a whopping £ 13 million – a massive sum of money for a right back in those times – the defender went on to become a crucial part in the title winning campaigns of 2004 and 2005. Towards the end of his career at Chelsea, though, Ferreira was largely a reserve player. Despite this, he was praised by several managers like Carlo Ancelotti for the professionalism that he showed despite not being a regular.

Even though he has officially retired from football, rumours have cropped up in recent weeks that the likes of Derby and Leicester are interested in persuading him out of retirement. “Branislav Ivanovic has been fantastic so far.

He is having a great season and is a top player. On the back it is very strong and very difficult to conquer. It is also a good moment to attack and can score goals.
Ivanovic is one of the most consistent players perform,” said the former defender for the club’s official site. During his long Chelsea career, Ferreira made more than 200 appearances and won titles like the Premier League.
